United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres issued a statement on Saturday expressing grave concern over the United States' use of force against Iran on the same day. He pointed out that this move has further escalated the already fragile regional situation, posing a direct threat to international peace and security.  

According to media reports, U.S. President Donald Trump announced late on Saturday a "successful strike" on three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—claiming that key uranium enrichment facilities in Iran had been "completely destroyed."  

Guterres expressed serious concern over this, explicitly stating that "this action has further escalated the already precarious regional situation, posing a direct threat to international peace and security."  

He noted that the risk of the current conflict spiraling out of control is growing by the day, which could bring catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world at large. He called on all Member States to de-escalate the situation and fulfill their obligations under the UN Charter and other rules of international law.  

Guterres stressed that in this critical moment, it is crucial to avoid a vicious cycle of chaos. He concluded, "Military means cannot solve the problem. Diplomacy is the only way out, and peace is the only hope."
