In 2014, he won the championship of the first season of "China's Great Painters" on Guangdong Satellite TV. His works have won awards and been collected in many domestic and international exhibitions. He advocates drawing creative inspiration from life and is skilled at depicting subjects such as Chinese herbal plants through sketching. His representative works, "A Hundred Schools of Thought Contending" and "Compendium of Materia Medica", demonstrate a unique style that combines meticulous and freehand brushwork.

In 2023, I returned to my hometown to establish an art gallery and hold a special art exhibition, promoting the integration of traditional Chinese painting and regional culture.

Artistic career

Liu Xiaodong was influenced by his father to learn calligraphy and painting since childhood. After graduating from high school, he was admitted to the Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under famous artists such as Su Baijun and Jia Guangjian. In 2014, with works such as "A Hundred Schools of Thought Contending", "The Essence of Plants", and "Deep in Water and Grass", he won the championship in the final of "China's Great Painters" on Guangdong Satellite TV with a total score of 550.5. His creative style was praised as "combining traditional heritage with contemporary aesthetics".

Artistic achievement

The traditional Chinese painting "Purple Qi Coming from the East" created in 2013, which employs the paper-based coloring technique, was selected for an exhibition hosted by the China Artists Association. The works have been collected by the Great Hall of the People, overseas art institutions and many museums.

In 2023, I completed over 40 sketches of Chinese herbal plants in my hometown and popularized traditional medical culture through the "Compendium of Materia Medica" art exhibition.

Personal exhibition

In September 2022, the "Wind, Flower, Snow and Moon - Liu Xiaodong's Solo Art Exhibition" was held in Mianyang.

In December 2023, I held a special art exhibition titled "Compendium of Materia Medica" in my hometown of Suining and established a personal art gallery. The works have been exhibited in Suzhou, Daying and other places, and the exhibition themes mostly focus on the dialogue between traditional culture and modern life.
