Jean René

French street artist

JR (Jean Rene), born in Paris, France in 1983, is a street artist, photography artist and documentary director. Known for his large-scale black-and-white portrait photography installations, he calls himself a "poster poster" and has long explored social issues through public space artworks.

In 2004, the "Portraits of a Generation" series was launched, focusing on the youth group in the suburbs of Paris.

In 2007, he created the "Face to Face" series, placing portraits of the people of Israel and Palestine on both sides of the Israel-Palestine separation wall.

In 2008, the "Urban Texture" project was initiated, using portraits of the elderly to cover the surfaces of buildings to record the historical trajectory of the city.

In 2011, it won the TED Annual Award and launched the global project "Disrupting the World", attracting over 12,000 participants from 108 countries.

During the 2016 Rio Olympics, Olympic-themed installations were created, including portraits of athletes spanning 20 floors.

In 2018, he directed the documentary "Faces, Villages", which won the Lumiere Award for Best Documentary.

In 2022, a 40-meter-long mural of refugee children titled "Valeriya" was completed in Lviv, Ukraine.
